The stunning gardens at Kilver Court
Hidden in the heart of the Mendips are the Secret Gardens of Kilver Court. They were first created over 100 years ago by Ernest Jardine, a progressive industrialist, who wanted to give his workforce inspirational working conditions. In the 1960s the Showering family transformed the gardens into what we see today. The three acre plot has been hidden behind lock and key until recently, but now you are invited to come and explore these beautiful gardens.

PLAN YOUR VISIT TO THE GARDENS >
A Labour of LoveIncredibly the Kilver Court gardens have been cared for by the same two gardeners for over thirty years, which makes both garden and gardeners well seasoned. The mature rockery was planted over half a century ago and a number of plants have been revived or replaced over the years.
With their depth of experience the gardeners have been able to improve many species to ones that thrive in the cool Mendip climate or fit better into the general scheme. From tirelessly weeding the rockery to prevent perennial weeds taking hold, to keeping the parterre and herbaceous boarder alive with colour and casting a watchful eye over the millpond's ducklings and moorhens, the pair have been kept busy.
It is an enormous task; and there's an extra 7.5 hours of lawn mowing per week during the summer months using traditional mowers. The gardener's care and dedication is immediately evident when you see the beautiful grounds.
